Free admission day - On the last Sunday of each month, from March to November, visits are free for the general public at the three fortresses managed by the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).
Santa Cruz de Anhatomirim Fortress:
The fortress is located in the northern area of Santa Catarina Island, in Florianópolis, approximately 25 kilometers from the city center. Strategically positioned on an island in the North Bay, it was part of the defensive system known as the triangle of fire, conceived by Brigadier José da Silva Paes. Construction began in 1739, with the purpose of protecting maritime access to Santa Catarina Island.
São José da Ponta Grossa Fortress:
The fortress is located in the northern part of Santa Catarina Island, in Florianópolis, approximately 25 kilometers from the city center. Strategically positioned atop Ponta Grossa Hill, it is framed by rocky headlands and the sands of Praia do Forte. This fortress formed the second vertex of the triangle of fire conceived by Brigadier José da Silva Paes. Construction began in 1740. In 1765, to strengthen its eastern defense, the São Caetano Battery was built near Jurerê Beach, about 200 meters from the fortress.
Santo Antônio de Ratones Fortress:
The fortress is located on Ratones Grande Island, in the North Bay of Florianópolis. As part of the defensive system known as the triangle of fire, it played a strategic role in controlling maritime access to Santa Catarina Island. Construction began in 1740 under the coordination of Brigadier José da Silva Paes.
